Incident Report

The incident took place at half past 8 in the morning of February 2nd, 2010. I was walking on the sidewalk in front of my office building with Eliana Ramirez who was 8 months pregnant. The snowfall was  heavy during the night and so the sidewalk was very slippery. Eliana slipped and fell forward on her stomach. She was gasping for air for about 20 seconds and began to feel pain. After a while, she said she might be going into labour. At that time Marc Brennan from the Accounting Department was walking by. He saw what happened and called 911 immediately. Fortunetly, paramedics came 3 minutes later and took Eliana to North York General Hospital. At the hospital, the paramedics said Eliana might be in labour. So I called Eliana's husband and told him what had happened.

Buying a car

In Canada, people often tell me that it is very inconvenient to live without a car. The automobile insurance is very expensive, especially for newcomers in Ontario. Nevertheless, you have to buy a new car or a used one in Toronto.

I didn't realize the necessity of a car when I arrived in Canada in August. Summer in Toronto is very beautiful and is not as hot as in China. My family felt more comfortable here. In the daytime I took my son to play in the park or went shopping by bus. When we finished our dinner, we went for a stroll on the trail.

As the winter is coming, I am increasingly aware of the necessity of buying a car. Last Saturday, I waited for the 102 bus for about 30 minutes at the station. This kind of thing happened to me and my husband sometimes. I thought if I go to the college to study in January I have to buy a car in case I have to wait for the bus in the cold winter for a long time.

After making some research on the internet, we  made a decision to buy a used car. The most important reason for not buying a new car is lack of money. We now both are unemployed and have no income. The money we took from China is not enough to pay for a new car and the monthly insurance. So the used car is our best choice.

The next step is to decide how much we can pay for a used car. In consideration of the application of OSAP and our actual situation, we couldn’t afford that kind of used cars which cost us above $5,000. I was told that I should pay more attention to the vehicle condition when I buy a used car. I also found some information about how to check out the vehicle condition.

My husband is more interested in European and American-style cars. Mostly he will drive the car. In consideration of all these factors, we have no many choices. We found out there is a used cars dealer near our home. We will go there to buy our car in a few days.

Of course, if we can’t find a car we are satisfied with we will not buy one. At the same time, I am looking forward to knowing how cold the Toronto’s winter is. My son is always telling me that he want to build a snowman in winter. I hope he will love the winter of this city.

My New LINC School

I enjoy learning English in my new LINC school. This new school is near to my home. I study English with my teacher and classmates every day, reading the newspaper and doing oral exercises. At the break time, we talk about everything together. My classmates are from all over the world. I have made many friends here. I was told there were some field trips here. I can not only see many beautiful places in Toronto, but also have good time with my family. My family will go to a beautiful farm on this Friday with my classmates. There are also some workshops here which can help us improve our English and find jobs. I like this school.

My New Life

I arrived in Canada in August. Canada is a beautiful country and it attracted me with its trees, lawn, fresh air and blue sky, etc. My son felt so happy when he found there were so many parks here and squirrels running through the trees.

After living with my aunt for 3 weeks, we moved to another place and started our new lives. In the daytime we send our son to the senior kindergard. Then we go to the LINC school to study English. We know it is important to improve our English and it will help us to find jobs and leads us to success.
